On this day, news of a natural disaster in southern Italy reaches Versailles:
“There was a great earthquake in the kingdom of Naples. The city of Benevento is almost entirely destroyed, and in the city of Naples there are several beautiful churches and palaces and quantities of houses that collapsed.”
