I lived in Paris for a sum total of two years as well as countless visits. I have combed the museums pretty thoroughly but never made it to Cognacq-Jay. Next time for sure.

I got there in 2019 (September) but most of it was closed off for refurbishing,as was Victor Hugos house as was most of the Musee de Cluny. All open now I think. The Cognac-Jay is right in the heart of the Marais.

As Portia said, there's so much emotion in that letter! Was it usual at the time for fathers, or mothers for that matter, to express their love so directly in writing like that?

Can't say how normal it was for others, but it was normal for Stanislas. The emotional rhetoric in his letters to Queen Marie is too florid for some. Back in the days when 'On This Day' was on IG, a commenter once wrote that he found it "greasy."
